La Junta Directiva del Festival de Cine Infantil de Providence se complace en anunciar dos nuevos nombramientos. Eric Bilodeau ha sido ascendido a Director Artístico, y Rachel Colaiace se incorporará a la organización como Directora Gerente el 1 de julio.
Eric se incorporó al PCFF como Director de Programación poco después de la fundación del festival, y ha comisariado una programación excepcional que ha inspirado al público durante la última década. Aporta más de 30 años de experiencia a su nuevo cargo de director artístico. Eric fue copropietario y director del Cable Car Cinema durante 18 años, y también fue Director de Programación del Festival Internacional de Cine de Newport. Además de director artístico del PCFF, Eric es programador de cine infantil del Festival de Cine de Martha's Vineyard y asesor del Festival Internacional de Cine Infantil de la India. En su "tiempo libre" puso en marcha Cricket Cinema en 2015, especializado en la celebración de proyecciones al aire libre de PCFF y otros programas cinematográficos de primer nivel.
"Programar películas para mentes jóvenes ha sido LA programación más exigente que he hecho nunca, pero también la más gratificante. He visto cómo niños de todas las edades respondían de forma muy positiva a relatos muy desafiantes. Estoy encantado de convertirme ahora en Director Artístico del PCFF, donde continuaré con la programación de alta calidad del PCFF, pero también ofreceré oportunidades de alfabetización mediática para ayudar a las mentes jóvenes a controlar, en lugar de limitarse a consumir, los medios visuales con los que son bombardeados a diario", señaló Eric.
Rachel Colaiace llega a PCFF como Directora General con casi 20 años de experiencia en eventos y recaudación de fondos. Su trabajo se ha centrado en la programación familiar y comunitaria orquestada para involucrar a una población diversa en actividades y causas comunitarias, lo que la convierte en la incorporación perfecta al equipo de la PCFF.
El interés personal de Rachel por la realización de películas, la planificación de festivales y la programación educativa surge de su creencia de toda la vida en la capacidad del cine para acercar a las personas un surtido mundano de experiencias y emociones de una forma fácilmente accesible. "El cine puede ser una plataforma especialmente poderosa para el crecimiento emocional entre la población joven y adolescente, y estoy ansiosa por trabajar junto al personal y los voluntarios del PCFF para atraer a un número cada vez mayor de entusiastas del cine al Festival de Cine Infantil de Providence", afirma Rachel.

Después de seis años excepcionales como Directora Ejecutiva del Festival de Cine Infantil de Providence, Anisa Raoof dejará el cargo en la primavera de 2019. La Junta Directiva aplaude a Anisa por proporcionar un liderazgo dinámico y profundizar el compromiso de PCFF con la comunidad de Providence en general, manteniendo una dedicación apasionada al poder del cine como una experiencia compartida para inspirar y deleitar vidas jóvenes.
Anisa se unió al PCFF como miembro del consejo en 2012, aportando su experiencia empresarial y en redes sociales como fundadora de Kidoinfo. Como directora ejecutiva del PCFF, Anisa se comprometió a ampliar el acceso al festival y creó el Film Hub, la Muestra de Jóvenes Cineastas, proyecciones gratuitas en bibliotecas públicas y parques públicos de Rhode Island y programas de alfabetización cinematográfica para escuelas, bibliotecas y grupos comunitarios de todo el estado.
"El cine tiene el poder de transformar nuestra forma de pensar sobre el mundo y el lugar que ocupamos en él. Estoy muy orgullosa del trabajo que hemos hecho como equipo para poner de relieve y conectar historias visuales convincentes de cineastas internacionales con el público joven de Rhode Island. Y estoy agradecida a nuestros increíbles socios comunitarios que han sido fundamentales para informar y amplificar nuestra programación. Juntos hemos aprovechado nuestros recursos no sólo para que las películas lleguen a más gente, sino también para inspirar el aprendizaje y la creatividad", dijo Anisa.
Ahora que el PCFF celebra su décimo aniversario, Una década de maravillas, estamos especialmente agradecidos a Anisa por su gestión y su visión para alcanzar este hito. Esperamos contar con ella entre nuestros fans y defensores mientras seguimos reuniendo a nuestra comunidad para celebrar el mundo de las historias a través del cine.
El Consejo de Administración de la PCFF iniciará en breve una búsqueda regional del sustituto de Raoof. Próximamente se publicará un anuncio de empleo en el sitio web de la PCFF.

Honorary Chairs’ Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Humanities
Tom Roberts, Founding Executive Director of the Rhode Island Council for the Humanities
The Lifetime Achievement Award celebrates an individual whose career achievements demonstrate humanities excellence, reflect the Council’s mission and core values, and enrich public life in Rhode Island. This year, the award celebrates Tom Roberts for over two decades of visionary leadership at the Council (1973-1995), which inspired civic dialogue and creative humanities programming connecting scholarship to key issues in our state, and for his extensive body of diverse cultural work as an educator, writer, performer, producer, and leader.
Tom Roberts Prize for Creative Achievement in the Humanities
Lorén Spears, Executive Director of the Tomaquag Museum
The Tom Roberts Prize celebrates creativity in topics, disciplines, and formats that extend the field of the humanities. This year, the Prize honors Lorén Spears for her extensive work as an advocate of Native American history and cultural heritage in preservation, the arts, and education. As a leader, culture bearer, educator, and artist, Spears amplifies Rhode Island’s collective awareness and understanding of Native history, and inspires pioneering practices in educational and cultural institutions throughout the state.
Innovation in the Humanities Award
Providence Children’s Film Festival
The Innovation Award recognizes the innovative implementation of the humanities by an organization to achieve a specific goal. This year, the Award is presented to the Providence Children’s Film Festival for cultivating critical thinking and media literacy in the next generation. Through partnerships with libraries, the PCFF amplifies its community impact and connects librarians, educators, and families with resources and programming to discover, explore, and inspire storytelling and literacy through film year-round.
Public Humanities Scholar Award
Marta Martínez, Executive Director of Rhode Island Latino Arts
The Scholar Award recognizes outstanding public humanities work in teaching and scholarship that advances the civic and cultural life of Rhode Island. This year, the Award honors Marta Martínez for her work to capture the stories of Rhode Island’s burgeoning Latino community and advance previously untold histories of our state. As an oral historian, cultural programmer, and educator, Martínez promotes collecting history as a way to amplify community pride and spark creative community engagement.
“It is thrilling to celebrate the work of these outstanding leaders enhancing our community,” said Elizabeth Francis, executive director of the Humanities Council. “Their outstanding work exemplifies our 2016 theme, Amplify, which highlights how the humanities heighten awareness of voices and stories that need to be heard, resonate with current issues and future possibilities, and magnify connections between economy, community, and culture.”
The Celebration of the Humanities will be held on Thursday, October 6, 2016 at the Providence Public Library. The occasion will bring together community and business leaders, government officials, scholars, artists, and Rhode Islanders to raise funds to support the public humanities including culture, history, heritage, and civic education in our state. The event will feature hors d’oeuvres, an open wine bar provided by Campus Fine Wines, a silent auction featuring unique humanities experiences, and the award presentation.
PCFF was delighted to partner with the Online New England Film Festival again this year. And thrilled to hear that one of the two films we submitted, “Monocular Man“, WON the Best Animated award as selected by their jury. Congratulations to local filmmaker and storteller Jack Feldstein!
Other children-friendly films from the online festival include “Dear Family” that won Best Comedy and “Rocketship” that won Audience Drama Award. Click aquí for a full list of award winners (Please note, not all films in the festival are intended for children.)
